Today, our very own Nurse Joy came to speak to the kindergarten classes. Nurse Joy shared about the history of nursing, her job as a school nurse, and how she helps others in the community. At the end of her presentation, Nurse Joy gave every student the opportunity to listen to her stethoscope. Thank you for helping our community and our school, Nurse Joy!

Last week, Kindergarten students were blessed to meet two community helpers: Officer Spencer, a police officer for the Bellevue Police Department, and Ms. Jean, a bus driver for Bellevue Public Schools.
Kindergarten students loved hearing Officer Spencer speak about his job and learning about all that he does to help people in our community. Officer Spencer explained the job of a police officer and showed the students the special gear that he needs to wear everyday. After our time together, many kindergarten students expressed how they want to be just like Officer Spencer when they grow up!
It was a blast to meet Ms. Jean and hear about her job as a bus driver! Ms. Jean is committed to keeping the children in our community safe. She explained about her job and then, showed us her big school bus! Kindergarten students had the opportunity to see and sit on the bus. Then, they practiced exiting the bus through the emergency exit! It was raining, so they got a little wet – but it was worth it! 🙂
Thank you, Officer Spencer and Ms. Jean, for helping our community!

As part of their unit on Community Helpers, Kindergarten students had the opportunity to listen to two real-life community helpers speak during class this week.
On Tuesday, Firefighter Mike, a firefighter at the Omaha Fire Department came and gave a presentation on fire safety. Kindergarten students loved seeing Firefighter Mike put on his special firefighting gear and learn about the importance of having a family meeting place if a fire would ever occur at home.
On Friday, Kindergarten students met Mrs. B., a children’s librarian at the Bellevue Public Library. Mrs. B read two books about community helpers to the students. Students especially loved interacting with the books! Mrs. B. brought special supplies so they could make their own book in class sometime. 🙂
Firefighter Mike shows the students a fire alarm.
The fire alarm was LOUD. 🙂
Kindergarten students learned the importance of a family meeting place.
Firefighter Mike put on his special suit.
Kindergarten students enjoyed touching and feeling Firefighter Mike’s fire suit.
Firefighter Mike may look strange in his suit, but it is still the same Firefighter Mike underneath all the special fire gear!
Kindergarten students enjoyed meeting Mrs. B, a librarian at Bellevue Public Library.
Mrs. B read kindergarten students a book about Community Helpers.
