Overseas

Part of discipleship at Cornerstone Christian School is obedience to the Great Commission and Jesus’ call to go into all the world, and in obedience to this call, CCS has started two overseas schools, one in Malawi and one in Guatemala.

In the early years of CCS, the school board and administration would walk through the halls of the school and in prayer and God would draw us into His truth that He has a specific plan for Cornerstone Christian School, not because we had substantial enrollment and significant growth, nor had influence, but because He loved us. He chose us not because of who we are, but because of who He is and He called us to obedience.  “For you are a people holy to the Lord your God.  The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.  It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you. Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, to a thousand generations.” (Deuteronomy 7:6-8a, and 9 ESV) The Lord also reminded us during those times that He goes before us in each decision and task, and that He is always with us. “It is the Lord who goes before you.  He will be with you; He will not leave you or forsake you.  Do not fear or be dismayed.” (Deuteronomy 31:8, ESV)

With these promises of His faithfulness, Cornerstone Christian School stepped out in faith and in the summer of 2016, the Lord began to speak His next steps for the school in starting international schools, twelve in all.  The first call was to partner with Trevor and Kasey Otto in Blantyre, Malawi and we have now completed our third year of Cornerstone Christian School Malawi.  This school is supported through generous donors and is for the children of the slums of Blantyre.  Our headmistress is Faith Chapola and we have two wonderful Malawian teachers and two teacher assistants.  Our students follow the national curriculum of Malawi and have Bible class each day.  Students are also given a nutritious meal and one healthy snack each day.

Our second overseas school is in San Luis, Guatemala, starting classes in 2022.  The director is Mariana Lopez Paiz De Mayorga and the Guatemalan teachers and support staff are a wonderful blessing for our new school.   The students will follow the national curriculum with daily Bible lessons and will also have a morning snack and a lunch.  This school is also supported through donors with a heart for children and discipleship.

This journey of creating international schools is not one of research-based strategies and best practices for effective student achievement, it is about lives changed, demonstrating what it truly means to be a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.  It is more than academics, it is a relentless pursuit of excellence; it is a heartfelt passion for others; it is a school that educates children to become learners – equipped with Godly character and Biblical Truth.
